The Ogden Temple is currently being torn down and rebuilt. I know that for many people, this was never the most beautiful example of our temples, but I have loved it for a long time and this news, while necessary, was kind of sad for me. Nathan and I, being a poor newlywed couple, used to come here nearly every Saturday for the first year of our marriage. We lived up the hill and it was just a nice free date thing to do. It's been the temple that we've been assigned to for all but 18 months of our married life, so it holds a special place for us.We were able to go and do a session on the last Saturday they were open, March 26th. When we go there, we were met with a pretty long line at the recommend desk. When the worker took my recommend to scan it he said, "Did you hear the rumor that we're closing." It was a bittersweet little joke, but I appreciated it nonetheless. It was so nice and we will miss it, but look forward to what will be built on it's spot. We loved going with Alissa and Tom and having one last meal in the cafeteria.
Funny story - you knew I had one - After the session we came downstairs. I got a little too close to the wall and my dress ended up hooking on the side of a framed painting of the Savior - a very large painting. Much to my surprise, the painting started to swing from side to side. I had to reach out and stop it for fear that it would fall off the wall. This sweet sister temple worker came up to help me and said, "It's OK, we're going to tear it down in a week anyway." Again we laughed. It was a wonderful day.
