This Time it Went Better

I'd like to preface this by saying that my 30th birthday was wonderful, marvelous and everything I could have ever hoped for.

OK, on to the real bits.

My last couple of birthdays have been less than wonderful. Last year Skip and Nia watched Natalee for us while we went out to dinner. This was great. However, it happened to be the same night that a tanker turned over on I-15 (yes, headed north of course) and closed the freeway. This was pre-Legacy opening, so there we were, with 6 billion of our closest friends stranded on the only road that lead home. Course, this was not a huge tragedy, just really not how I wanted my birthday to go.

Two years ago was a complete disaster....COMPLETE! We dropped Natalee off in Salt Lake with my parents who were going to give us a blissful kid free night to do whatever we wanted. We planned to go see Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and enjoy dinner at a place we wouldn't normally take our (then) 4 year old. MarKey was even cute and made us Harry Potter costumes. It was going to be a great day, right?
RIGHT?
There was one small catch. I had to drop something off at LDS hospital for the NICU. This is where things started going downhill. Nathan suggested that we grab lunch, but being the efficent gal that I am, I suggested that we head to the hospital first and then we could do whatever. For those not familure, LDS hospital is at the top (well rather middle) of a steep hill in the avenues. Our car was kind of on the blink, and well, died just as we arrived at the hospital. No problem, right? Let's just let it cool down and everything will be fine, right?
RIGHT?
Yeah, not so much. We ended up waiting for more than 2 hours for a tow truck to show up and rescue us. We got to eat yummy LDS hospital food, which we'd missed so much. Then he did show up and I had to sit on his filthy seat in my white pants. I was pretty upset. However, we made it to the fix it place, my brother in law graciously offered to take us home and everything was going to be fine, right?
RIGHT???
We went to the movie and I really liked it. Movies are always such a nice escape for me. Anyway, we got out of the movie and I called my mom to check how her day was going because it had to be better than mine, right?
RIGHT????
It wasn't. She informed me that my child had a bug bite on her leg (which I knew about) that was oozing green pus (which I didn't know about) and her leg from the knee to ankle was bright pink and swollen. I'm not a medical professional, but I knew this couldn't be good. It was nearly eight o'clock and I made the decision to meet mom and Natalee in Orem at an instacare. We got the diagnosis, which was cellulitis. Kind of a nasty thing and good that we came in to get it treated. We then needed antibiotics and at ten o'clock on Saturday night the only place open in Orem to fill a perscription is Walgreens. Of course, all of Utah county was there getting their perscriptions filled, so we waited and waited and waited and waited.....
Mom insisted that we go home. We were having a birthday party the next day at her house. We went home and on the way hit the Del Taco drive through. It was 11:30. I do love me some Del Taco, but this was not the way my day was supposed to go.
Which brings me to yesterday. Again, we were planning to go and see a Harry Potter movie. Then on Friday I got a message that I was asked to attend a meeting at LDS hospital. I am still driving the same car. I started to panic slightly at the similarities. However, this time everything worked. No car problems, no bug bites, good movie, yummy dinner, great presents.
Yes, this time it went better....in fact, this time it was fantastic!

Oh man. That's some horrible funniness. How freaky that the LDS hospital AND Harry Potter played into this one, too!
Glad this one was better. Happy Birthday.

Wow. Those are quite the birthday stories. I'm glad you still got to see Harry Potter.
