Vacation Wrap Up

On the morning of the 11th we got up to drive back to MarKey's house.  We had a stop to make in Georgetown and on the way over The Key Bridge, we made a sign discovery.  We were missing Virginia because the route we took to DC had a very small sign in the middle of a bridge.  There was no time to even grab the camera.  So we stipped and got a couple of shots.  We had no idea there was a Washington DC sign, so that was a nice surprise.

This is the stop we had to make....yeah, yummy!  We're not fans of the show, but we are fans of cupcakes.  I waited in the line and got an assortment to take back to share with my siblings because I love them so much.
We drove up to the Washington DC temple for a quick stop.  We learned that Mormons are the same everywhere when we saw two people exchanging Tupperware and cookie sheets in the parking lot.  It was so pretty and we wish we'd have had more time to spend there, but we needed to get on the road.

Back at MarKey's we found that her back yard had gotten even more wonderful.  She had discovered baby bunnies in her garden.  You can barely see little ears sticking up here from their little burrow.  So cute!

Despite the discovery of the bunnies, we were elated that our cousins from Pennsylvania were there waiting for us too.  However, there was some sadness as well.  We had gotten the news while we were in DC that Jon's mom had fallen while on vacation in California.  He was flying out that day to be with her and his siblings while they waited for results from the doctor on her condition.  Nathan was able to take him to the airport in Baltimore while we stayed at the house and played.

On Sunday we got to to go church in Jon and MarKey's new Ward. It was really nice to meet the people they'll be going to church with and they were all so welcoming and nice.  However, by Sunday morning it was evidant in California that Jon's mom was not going to survive her injury.  MarKey made quick plans to come home with us the next day.  We said a teary goodbye to Skip and Nia's little family and got packed up to leave the next day. It was interesting because when we were planning our trip, we didn't want to stay as long as it ended up. We ended up finding a fare on a one way flight from Baltimore that was too good to pass up.  As it turned out, we were able to be there to help her with the kids in the airport and on the plane, which was a huge blessing.

In the end, it was a little strange that they were coming home with us, but it was wonderful to have such cute company!  We had a really wonderful trip and were go grateful to be able to go!
