3rd Grade Winding Down

The last few weeks of school are always quite fun.  They are all done with testing and there is time for classwork that is more fun and lots of extra activities.

FUN RUN
The Fun Run is a fundraiser where the kids get pledges for participating.  Natalee's group had to run twice around the big field and she did great!  It was kind of an overcast, stormy day, but she thought that was probably better than running in the heat!

Teacher Appreciation
I was asked to do a bulletin board for Natalee's teacher for Teacher Appreciation Week in May.  The theme for the week was "Fiesta" so I used a pinata and put (what is supposed to say) We Love You Mrs. Perrin on the board.  (If anyone out there reading this speaks Spanish, don't hurt my pride by pointing out that I got it wrong, OK?)  I had each kid in the class tell me what they liked about the teacher and we put their response and a photo coming out of the pinata.  It was fun to hear the nice (and sometimes funny) things they had to say about her.
This isn't so much about school, just a cute picture of two little girls having popcorn on the back porch.

FIELD DAY
Every year in the last week of school, they have a Field Day.  This year the theme was The Amazing Race and they had activities from different countries.  This is a giant slip and slide, which apparently had something to do with Canada.

They had inflatable obstacle courses for Japan.

 "Kangaroo" races for Australia
It was a really fun day and Natalee came home soaking wet and covered in mud.  Great success!

We also had a fun movie night and a field trip to the Aquarium.  I was able to go on this field trip too, but unlike the one in the fall, I remembered to bring my camera.  Problem: I left the memory card at home.  I'm 0-2 on getting any field trip photos for 3rd grade.  Mother of the year, I tell you!

BOX TOPS
Finally, a little something about me this year.  I was in charge of the Box Tops collection and promotion at the school this year.  I came up with the idea to treat each box top as a mile and try to make it around the world.  Each month I'd send home a flier telling the kids about our new destination and this map was in the hallway by the cafeteria so they could track their progress.  I am happy to report that we collected over 30,000 Box Tops for a total earning of $3,110.00. I was quite amazed!
