Trip Quilt

I don't know why Nat looks so sad in that picture. Anyway, remember when we went to Alabama earlier this year? I barely remember it seems so long ago, but we did. My mother had an idea to keep Natalee occupied in the car, as it took 4 days to get there. She thought they could make a quilt. I thought she was nuts, but it really worked and it really did keep Natalee entertained and they stitched together on the long drive. Before the trip, and a little while we were on the trip, we picked out fabric that would represent the things we would see and do. That way it's a little like a scrapbook. We got the finished product last Saturday and it's so cute. Here are some examples:
Some of my favorite squares are the ones that we couldn't find fabric for, so mom let Nat draw a picture. This square is to represent the countless windmills and water towers we saw on in Texas. (also pictured are the peppers and indian baskets we saw in New Mexico, a picture of Dallas for Dallas Texas and Easter)
One of the watertowers that inspired the square.

These are ghosts for the unique cemetery in New Orleans.

There is a square for every temple we were able to see.

We got to see a lighthouse in Biloxi, Mississippi.

When my dad lived in Alabama as a child, his dad helped build a Boy Scout Camp. He took Natalee and Nathan out to it one afternoon. I couldn't believe that my mom found material with boy scouts on it.

This past week Natalee has loved looking at the quilt and remembering our trip. Thanks for the wonderful gift, Grandma!

Wow, I love the idea, too bad I have no quilting talent.
