Natalee came bouncing out of school today, so excited that they'd made leprachaun traps. She said that the teacher said that if they made them really good, and left them over night in the room, that in the morning there might catch a leprachaun. She's really excited. She wanted to make one at home so that she can catch two. Usually when she comes home from school she just wants to watch TV. I think this is a great opportunity for arts and crafts time, so I oblige.
I find a jar, I help her paint it. I cut a "door" so that it can get in, but hopefully won't be able to get out. I help her find furniture for it to sit on, so that it will be comfortable and not want to leave. I put double sided tape around a pencil so that it will get stuck. As we are painting she's talking, and talking and talking. Talking about leprachauns and how excited she is to catch one. As we proceed and her story gets more elaborate, I start to worry. She's even decided what she's going to name the little creature that this clever trap will catch. She makes a note and puts it on the door. Certainly the leprachaun will oblige and come on in.
YIKES!
Now I'm presented with a bit of a maternal dilema. What is she expecting? What is the teacher doing? What should I do? This sounds like a problem for Dad to tackle.

Becca has made a track for her class as well. I guess you are never too young to be disappointed. I did think about sending my kids on a snipe hunt...
You know, Leprechauns are REALLY hard to catch. You've already probably figured out how to handle this but I'll tell you anyways. :) Noah makes one ever year here at home. He has yet to catch one. :) Like this year the Leprechaun cut a hole in the bag of his trap and got out, but he left the boys some stickers. Usually he leaves some "gold" too. aka Rolos, in a pile. The Leprechauns always cause some mischiff too. Like opening all of the cubard doors and taking out anything that's green and stacking them on the floor, and leaving all the doors open. Dying the milk green, toilet water too. Pillows usually find their way into odd formations. Just fun things like that. Little green foot prints. Green eggs and ham but we have yet to catch a real live Leprechaun. :)
Must be something new, or else I am very forgetful. I don't remember my kids ever trying to catch one. Course, I am a bit old and forgetful.
