Happy Obama Day

Although it's nearly over, I just wanted to express my love for this country and excitement for this day. I'm still not totally sold on our new president. As I've said before, I'm sure he's a good person, but it's finally time for him to put his money where his mouth is, so to speak. However, I think that on this day we can all be thankful for where we live. We live in a country that when a new person takes the office of president, it's isn't the result of a war or a coup. There is no bloodshed and no hostages. No military state and no treaties.
This was the result of a fair election and it's been this way from the beginning and that is a wonderful thing. I am proud to live here, in a true democracy and I realize how blessed I am.
Since I'm such a history buff, here are a few fun inguration day facts from years past:
Longest Speech: William Henry Harrison delivered his speech of 8,445 words in almost 2 hours. This is probably most ironic since he is the president who served the shortest term, dying only 30 days into his term.
Shortest Speech: George Washington's address was only 135 words long.
Warmest Inaguration Day: Jaunary 20, 1981 - Ronald Regan's first inaguration
Coldest Inaguration Day: January 21, 1985 - Ronald Regan's second inaguration
Boy, someone is stealing the weather thunder, right?
Largest Parade: Dwight D. Eisenhower's parade in 1953 was 4 hours and 32 minutes. There were 59 floats and 73 bands. Wow....Dwight likes a parade!
Oldest Bible: FDR used a Dutch Bible published in 1686
First President to have a Parade: Thomas Jefferson in 1805
First President to Ride in a Car: Warren G. Harding in 1921
First Inaguration Photograph: James Buchanan in 1857
First Televised Inaguration: Henry Truman in 1949
First Color Televised Inaguration: John F. Kennedy in 1961
First Internet Inaguration: Bill Clinton in 1997

We live in a country where we can fight about football teams, and make up minutes later...
:)
I hope that Obama does better than my impressions of him have been!
