Starring: Will Ferrell, Zooey Deschanel, Mary Steenburgen, James Caan, and Bob Newhart
Plot: As a baby, Buddy climbed into Santa’s sack and ended up being raised by elves at the North Pole. When he discovers he’s different he’s allowed to go to New York City to find his birth father. His father isn’t thrilled about the idea and has him thrown out. With nowhere to go, he gets a job at Gimble’s Department Store, meets a pretty girl, gets arrested, charms his way back into the family and restores the Christmas Spirit to millions.
Favorite Moments:
- In the very beginning, Papa Elf tells us all the three jobs elves are qualified for, which are making shoes while the cobbler sleeps, baking cookies in a tree and making toys in Santa’s workshop. From that moment, I knew I’d love this movie.
- When Buddy gets mad and runs out of the workshop, he sees a blind snowman and some other creatures that look like rejects from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
- When Buddy arrives at his dad’s office and they think he’s a Christmas Gram. Buddy sing the song that he makes up on the spot and another Dean Family Eterni-Quote is born.
- Buddy decorating the store for the arrival of Santa
- Buddy sending “someone special” lingerie
- Buddy and Jovie singing when she’s in the shower
- The interaction between Buddy and the Gimble’s Santa where he asks “How can you live with yourself” and tells the children that this isn’t the real Santa.
- Buddy calling the book author (who is a little person) an elf
Quotes:
Santa: If you see gum in the street, leave it there. It’s not free candy. And if you see a sigh that says Peep Show, that doesn’t mean they’re letting you look at the new toys before Christmas.
-----
Buddy: Have you seen these toilets? They’re ginormous!
-----
Buddy: Elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup.
-----
Buddy: It’s just like Santa’s workshop….except it smells like mushrooms and everyone looks like they want to hurt me.
-----
Buddy: I’m here with my dad, and he wants me to sing him a song and ummm, I was adopted, but you didn’t know I was born. So, I’m here now, I found you, Daddy. And guess what, I love you, I love you, I love you!
