Obama-Nation

It happened. I for one can't believe it, but it did.
Now, I don't think he's the anti-Christ. I don't think he's a horrible person, in fact, he could be a very good person. Problem is, I really don't know that and I don't know for sure that most of the people who voted for him know either.
In 1963 Martin Luther King said,
"I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
There are probably several hundred thousand people out there tonight thinking, "Wow, Dr. King. It took nearly 50 years, but your dream has come true." Has it? Was he judged by the content of his character? I say, not really. It seems to me that in the past several months, any issue facing the character of our president elect has either be squashed by the media or downplayed by Obama himself or the people around him. Now, if there were really nothing to hide, why the necessity to downplay the stories? I think that there are a lot of people who voted for him based on the color of his skin and that troubles me. I know that if a candidate closely mirrored my beliefs it wouldn't matter to me if that person were black, white, orange or purple, Democrat or Republican, they'd get my vote. It is the content of a person's character that should matter and I sadly know very little about Obama's and what I do know troubles me.
To me, there are two solid facts.
#1- Obama has some very Marxist views.
These are in print. And they are more in depth than just what was said to Joe the Plumber. Obama studies Marxism and his views match almost point for point those of Karl Marx. I'm not opposed to things being fair, but what is fair about people getting something they haven't worked for? There is enough problem with the welfare system in this country. Let's try to fix that before reinventing the wheel.
#2- Obama has some shady dealings with extremists in his past.
From the Reverand Wright to Bill Ayers, he had dealings with questionable people in the past. No matter how breif the media wants us to believe those associations were, the fact that he associated with people of this calibur can not be denied.

The next question I have is where did he come from? I remember the first time I saw Barack Obama. I don't remember how long ago it was, but I well remember the time. He was on Oprah.

Let me say first and foremost, I am not an Oprah fanatic. I don't watch the show every day, in fact I rarely do. However, I did catch the first time she had Obama on the show. I remember her asking him if he'd run for President and him saying yes and the crowd shouting and whooping. I thought at the time, "Man, this guy is well spoken, he's poised, he's passionate, he'd probably do a good job." He was on Oprah and BAM, he was everywhere. Next thing you know, he's running for president. He was up agains Hillary Clinton, who at the time I was so busy hating, that I paid very little attention to Obama. I even told people that I'd rather have him over her. That was before I knew how liberal he actually is. I don't really agree with everything in either party, but I think being too far to the right or left is dangerous....and he's pretty far left.

Years later later I've come to realize that Obama is a very good public speaker. I also realize that he's had some powerful people backing him. I feel that this campaign was a marketing dream come true. There were people (and who they are I have no clue) who wanted Obama to be the president. So they marketed him. They made him look very good and they made sure he said all the right things to all the right people. And he did. He used persuasive words like "change" and "hope" at all the right times, painting a picture of a better world. Oprah said tonight she's already bought a gown for the inaguration. Good for her. She earned it.

I feel like this election was decided by Hollywood, the media and uninformed, young voters. Obama has been marketed as hip, young and cool. He's been marketed as someone who will get things done and not follow the current administrations lead.

Since HOPE seems to be the word of the day here are the things I hope for: #1- I hope that he's not able to create socialism in any form in the United States. Socialized medicine scares the jeepers out of me. #2- I hope that the checks and balances set forth in the Constitution will hold. Considering that he's got to have a majority of Congress agree with him on things gives me hope.
#3- I hope that we'll have a Republican controlled congress soon into his Presidency to ensure that balance of power. #4- I hope he doesn't get assassinated. I do fear for his safety and for the safety of his family. His kids are so young and I hope they'll be OK. #5- I hope the Republicans are stupid enough to think they can run Sarah Palin against him in 2012. Nothing against her, I think she's a hoot, but really in my opinion she's a big part of the reason John McCain lost. #6- I hope he does a good job. Anyone in his position would be facing an uphill battle. I pray he's really up to the task.

On the local side of things, it looks like we'll have to put up with Rob Bishop *sigh* for another couple of years. It looks like Nathan's boss will retain his job. It looks like Greg Curtis will lose his. Those last two have me turning cartwheels. The silliness of the legislature wanting to put the state surplus into the stock market thankfully failed. All seems to be pretty good here. My thoughts tonight are with my friends in California and (less so, but still) Arizona in the hope that their Marriage ammendments will pass. I hope I can sleep now that I've gotten these thoughts out. Natalee's been waking up at 6:30 since the time change....I do so despise the time change. I'd like to vote for the person who will get rid of daylight savings time!

Amen my sister. I'm so sick to my stomach today. I can't believe it. We have a lot of praying to do. I for one have been praying for the best and he won......so what does that mean. Either my prayers aren't answered or the Lord knows something we don't. Which is usually the case.

I feel just like you Shilo...he could be a good person, he may not, but the truth is NOBODY knows who he really is. I teach so many kids whose parents have the mentality that society owes them a living, I hope we don't have a President who agrees!
