Destruction

Several years ago, some delinquent children hit our mailbox with a rock in the middle of the night.  The box had to be replaced, but the pole was just a little bent, so we didn't do anything other than straighten it out.  Little did we know how much that event weakened the pole and little by little, year by year it's been breaking.  It was sometime in mid-January that I witnessed the mail carrier shoving a package from Land's End in the box, which was at least twice the size of something that could have reasonable fit inside the box and really should have been taken to the porch.  When I finally wrestled the package out, there was no denying that it was time to replace the pole.  It had rusted, and was now badly cracked.  However, January is not really the ideal time to be digging in the ground, so it had to wait until last weekend to be properly fixed.  We are thankful for duct tape.  Nathan let Natalee do the honors of breaking the pole and it was kind of hilarious.  I think she kind of thought she might get in trouble.  Now we have a new heavy duty mailbox, which hopefully survive even the toughest rock attack.

Nice! When I was growing up, we had a chronic problem with our mailboxes getting smashed. I hope this one lasts a LONG time for you.

Don't even get me started on the woes of mail carriers out here. Oh man, they're terrible. I've spent way too much time and effort trying to pry too-big packages out of that blasted mailbox. And Louie's weekly magazine is often ripped and weeks late.
Go postal? I just might.

We were given a roll of duct tape as a wedding present, the card said it can fix anything - just about!
