On Tuesday Natalee found a penny on the floor. Usually when she finds a penny she'll ask if she can put it in her bank, but on this day she had something special in mind. She brought it to me and said,"Mommy, you know what? This is a penny and this is Abraham Lincoln. Did you know he was really our president?"
I was kind of shocked by this revelation. We've never told her anything about the president so apparently public school works!
I kind of wanted to see where this went so I said, "What else do you know about Abraham Lincoln." Natalee's reply:
"Oh, you know what? One day he went to a movie theater and there was this man who didn't like him and all the nice things he was doing for people, and so he shooted him and he was killed." In her defense, I think the only "theater" this kid knows about is the one where they play movies, so we can't blame public school for that one. However, we naturally thought this was very cute. Nathan then asked her who the president is now and she said,
"Ba-wok Obama." We asked her a few other things and eventually she went off to play.
Wednesday I heard her playing with her little pets and saying something that just cracked me up. She role plays with them quite often and the conversations are usually entertaining, but in light of all the presidental talk the night before, this was especially funny.
"Oh no! Ba-wok Obama! What are you doing?" (Funny, I've had this same thought this past week, but I digress.)
"No, no Ba-wok Obama! You can't! You have to be the president."
"Oh, it's ok. Silly Ba-wok Obama."
I asked her later what Barack Obama was doing and she said, "Oh, he was trying not to be the president and I told him to be the president. It's OK now."
I'm glad she straightened that out. I think it was tense for a while.
Yesterday we were on our way to Salt Lake and I got educated about George Washington. I now know that he's on the quarter, (which seems to be the most important presidential fact in Natalee's world....what money the former president is on) that he was the first president, and that he wore a wig, a fact that she thinks is hilarious.

OH no Bawok Obama!
That is so funny. Tell Natalee that she made me laugh today!
Well, I wish Miriam was in Natalee's class. learned a lot more useful information about presidents that Miriam did.
