Book Review: The Body in the Belfry

Grade: B
Yes, I'm giving this a solid B. I'm looking for an author to replace my Mary Higgins Clark. Not that I'm discarding her, but on one hand she's not cranking out the books fast enough to keep up with me, but also she'll be 81 years old in December and let's face it, she might not live much longer. So I'm constantly looking for new, good mystery stories that can fill in the gaps inbetween her books. I kind of like her daughter's (Carol Higgins Clark) books, but they are just not the same and not as good.
I was at the library and was looking at the newly released books for last month and this lady had a new one out. When I did a little research I found that the new one was actually her 14th or something. This is the first one she wrote, so I checked it out instead. All of her books center around Faith Fairchild, who is the wife of a minister, mother of a young son, and former caterer. They live in a small town in New England where she is restless and missing big city life. Then she finds the body of a young woman in the town and everything goes haywire. She starts to investigate the murder putting herself in danger in the process.
I will read more of this lady's books. It was an easy read and at the end, the person who ends up being the killer is one that makes sense and fits the story line. That's generally my biggest problem with Carol Higgins Clark. It seems like she goes and goes and goes along building the story and at the end the person who is the killer/thief just comes out of nowhere and then she creates a new story line to make it make sense. Her novels seem slightly disjointed. Anyway, I will certainly give Miss Page another read.
To let you know, there was only a smattering of bad language and none of the "R" rated curse words. There was adult subject matter, but no graphic violence or sex.

Oooh adult subject matter....haha

If I wasn't such a baby I could read murder mystery books.

I have read EVERY Mary Higgins Clark book. I even tried to read some of her daughter's books, Carol Higgins, and I was very disappointed. I will have to try out The Body in the Belfry....or maybe I will hold out for a book you grade an "A"

I'm glad to know there are other MHC junkies out there. :) My problem with other murder mysteries is that I compare it to her and therefore I don't think there will be many "A" grades from me.
She and Carol have another Christmas book coming out in November and Mary has a solo book coming out in April. I can't wait!
